Getting over Struggles

Moving to a new city has had its ups and downs, especially during a time of a global pandemic. When I first moved here, I found it refreshing to move to a place where hospitality was thriving and going again.

Living in Toronto during the lockdowns didn’t give me much to hope for. Being busy was refreshing and exhilarating and tiring all at the same time. Working 12 hour shifts again brought back memories from the past and created new bonds between myself and my staff. It all felt a bit normal at some point. Normal as it possible could be.

Life has gone on and the promises of life getting back to normal have become closer. Then the wrenches started being thrown into the bikes. First it came with team members leaving, saying they found other jobs. Then it came with the sick calls and emergency fire alerts. Sometimes it went back to the pandemic and the virus rearing its ugly head again in our community. The virus shutting down businesses and making people sick again.

Setbacks come at times when they are unexpected. They surprise you and you can’t plan for them at all. You have to adjust your life and make decisions fast, to try and control what you can..

I believe every setback in life makes you stronger. It’s another hoop put in way way, that you have to run through. They can make your life really inconvenient. Setbacks are annoying, but make you smarter and teach you to make better decisions, quickly.

Since moving here I’ve had many setbacks. Each time I think it’s the last one, and then there is another just around the corner. Having setbacks can make you sad and angry and can cause you to lose faith that everything will work out.

Being a human you understand how to get back up and do it again. You bring that drive and resilience out of you from somewhere to push through and remain calm. Weathering the storm is challenging, but it brings resilience. Another setback is just another step to something better; you just have to believe you will get there.

Pushing to get through the challenges is hard and frustrating, but once it’s over you can breathe a sigh of relief.

So all I have to say is, keep pushing my friends. Someday it will get better.
